LE50CZ, a Regulated Charge Pump DC-DC Converter Voltage Regulator, is a high performance, low noise and low power voltage regulator integrated circuit (IC) from STMicroelectronics. It is designed for low voltage applications and is typically used in mobile phones, digital cameras and other portable devices.The LE50CZ uses a charge pump switching regulator topology and is capable of providing a regulated output voltage, typically 3.3V, from inputs of 2.6V to 6V. It offers excellent current and voltage load regulation, transient response and noise rejection. It also has over-current, short-circuit and over-temperature protection that are integrated within the device.The LE50CZ features two primary functions: a 2.2MHz switching regulator and a linear regulator. The switching regulator is a 1-stage, fixed frequency, with a ripple booster and driver assembly. It takes input voltage and, through the control circuitry, regulates it to the desired level and then sends it to the output stage. The output stage includes two high-frequency switches, an inductor, and a capacitor. The switching regulator operates with a fixed frequency at the maximum voltage of 2.2MHz. The inductor stores energy and transfers it through the high-frequency switches to the output stage. The switches are controlled by the control circuitry and are used to adjust the amount of energy transferred from the inductor.The linear regulator is used to ensure that the output voltage is constant and within a certain range. The linear regulator works by taking the feedback from the output voltage and comparing it to the reference voltage. Once the output voltage rises above the reference voltage, the linear regulator will begin to reduce the current and voltage going to the output stage to reduce the output voltage. This allows the output voltage to remain within the specified range, which prevents the device from being over- or under-regulated.The LE50CZ is a convenient and efficient way to regulate an output voltage in a variety of low voltage applications.
