The LF33CDT is among the various Voltage Regulators – Linear categories of PMICs, or Power Management Integration Circuits. It is a low dropout three-terminal Positive voltage regulator. Its circuit architecture allows the device to regulate output voltage regardless of wide variations to the current delivery, or load. This makes it a great choice for critical portable applications where the load, or VOUT could change quickly and often.
The LF33CDT operates from a 2.2V minimum input supply voltage, and a maximum input up to 35V, output voltages can be set from 1.2V to 32V. It is a super simple device that integrates a low dropout regulator, making it suitable for a variety of battery-operated applications. It provides stable output voltage against high input voltage, wide temperature range and output voltage over load changes.
Though the regulator is simple to use, the internal architecture of the LF33CDT is far from simple. It employs one NPN transistor and one PNP transistor which act as an adjustable voltage sweep, either increasing or decreasing the output voltage range. When the output voltage is set correctly, the PNP device shunts current away from the output, yet still allowing the low quiescent current to flow through the NPN device. The whole circuit is optimized to provide high output performance without introducing any parasitic effects.
Another benefit of the LF33CDT is that its structure is highly efficient and able to supply a high amount of current up to 800mA, making it suitable for large current applications.High accuracy load regulation is also provided at a higher temperature range of -40℃ to 125℃, therefore the stability would remain consistent even when the temperature changes.
In addition, the logical level of the LF33CDT offers ultra-low quiescent current, reducing power consumption and reaching current saving levels around 200uA. An additional adjustment pin allows for a wide range of output voltage trimming. The feature of external shutdown also offers an advantage over many other designs, where it has to be incorporated externally. Thus, making this device with ultra low shutdown current which easily can be controlled.
