The LF50CDT-TRY is a high-performance, linear voltage regulator providing up to 10A of output current in an industry standard three-terminal TO-220 package. It is unique amongst linear regulators because it offer superior performance and low power consumption. As a result, it is well suited for a wide range of regulated voltage applications and is especially well suited for frequency-variant power management, communications and digital signal weighing (DSW) applications.

The LF50CDT-TRY operates in an inherently linear fashion, relying on voltage regulation circuitry the same way a conventional linear regulator does. The main difference with the LF50CDT-TRY is that it uses a dynamic current regulation technique to maintain its stable output voltage, which provides superior power savings compared to conventional linear voltage regulators.

The LF50CDT-TRY works by accurately controlling the output voltage as a function of the input voltage and output current, based on a predefined loop gain characteristic. The loop gain characteristic is set through the use of an internal differential amplifier and a set of programmable parameters, including an analogue feedback signal.
