Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) are computer chips designed to make multi-purpose, customizable, low-power microchips. An FPGA is made up of thousands of interconnected processors, where each processor can act independently or together as a unified unit depending on the application. FPGAs are popular among embedded PCB designers because they are powerful, easy to program, and can provide significant performance advantages over traditional designs.The LFECP6E-3Q208C FPGA is a general-purpose, non-volatile, multi-purpose embedded FPGA manufactured by Lattice Semiconductor. It is used primarily in embedded controllers and processing systems.The LFECP6E-3Q208C utilizes a 3V power source and is built with a cyclone III architecture. It also includes an in-system programmable Flash Memory Interface (FI) and an integrated Phase-Locked Loop (PLL). The PLL enables sequential clock operation for synchronous and asynchronous operations and provides phase alignment among multiple clock sources.The LFECP6E-3Q208C provides an extensive library of functions that can be combined to create complex systems. These include a variety of IO pins, high-speed clock inputs and outputs, a distributed RAM interface, a processor interface, and a direct memory access (DMA) controller. The DMA controller provides a fully buffered RAM interface which enables concurrent memory access for both processor and peripherals.On-chip resources include two dual-ported RAMs, a powerful processor interface, two 10-bit PWM DACs, and timer/counter logic. The timer/counter logic allows the FPGA to generate external interrupts, and to keep a timer/count value as references. It supports a high level of integration, with a total of 712 logic elements, 8K RAM, 28K ROM and 2K ROM, 38K bit ROM and 128K RAM, and high speed I/O connection. It also enables cost effective designs due to its low cost, small package size and high speed.The LFECP6E-3Q208C utilizes a 3V power source and is built with a cyclone III architecture. This architecture supports various operations and technologies, and enables the chip to perform advanced tasks with a very low power consumption. These operations include fast combinational and sequential logic, high quality image processing, complex signal processing and digital signal processing, as well as high-speed communications.The FPGA also has excellent interconnectivity, allowing for connections to other FPGAs, microprocessors and peripherals, including interfaces to external memory chips and I/O devices.
