Thyristors are semiconductor devices identified by the availability of three or four terminals. They are used as switches in circuits and include devices such as diodes, transistors, TRIACs, DIACs, SIDACs and SCRs.
DIACs, an acronym for “Diode for Alternating Current”, are two terminal devices known for their “firing” characteristics which are similar to those of a TRIAC. DIACs can be used as switches or trigger devices when used with an appropriate gate signal.
SIDACs, an acronym for “Silicon Controlled Rectifier For Alternating Current”, are four-terminal devices. First developed by a company in the early 1970s, SIDACs are used mainly as power switches in AC circuits. SIDACs are typically used as a current source to extend SCR service life when it is operating in dv/dt mode.
The LIC01-195H is a two-terminal DIAC designed for automotive applications such as headlights, indicators, and power window drives. With a maximum repetitive peak off-state voltage of 195V, a minimum peak current rating of 2A, a 35V minimum breakover voltage, and a maximum surge current rating of 6A, this device is ideal for certain automotive applications.
When a small current flows through the DIAC and the voltage across it reaches the breakover voltage, current will flow through the device and the device will remain in its “fired” condition until the current drops below a certain value. This continuous current is referred to as the “hold current”. Typically, a snubber circuit is also used to protect the DIAC from high transient voltages and high peak currents caused by switching. The breaking capacity of the LIC01-195H (applied voltage multiplied by current) is specified up to 365W.
In summary, the LIC01-195H is a two-terminal DIAC designed for automotive applications such as headlights, indicators, and power window drives. With a maximum repetitive peak off-state voltage of 195V, a minimum peak current rating of 2A, a 35V minimum breakover voltage, and a maximum surge current rating of 6A, this device is ideal for certain automotive applications. Its breakover voltage allows for reliable and consistent switching of the device, and its surge current rating ensures that the device will not be damaged during the “switch on” phase. Its breaking capacity of 365W makes it suitable for high power applications.
