Diodes - Rectifiers - Single

The LL4001G L0 is a single-phase bridge rectifier with three or four terminals, each of which has either positive or negative voltage potential when conducting current. The rectifier is used in rectification circuits to convert alternating currents (AC)input to direct current (DC). Application Field

The LL4001G L0 can be used in a wide range of electronic applications due to its high reverse voltage, better surge capability and improved peak power dissipation. The most common applications of the LL4001G L0 are in low-power power supplies, such as DC-DC converter, uninterruptible power supply (UPS), AC/AC transformers, and 3-phase generators. Working Principle

When an AC voltage is applied to the rectifier circuit, the current is conducted in both directions in the circuit. However, the diode in the bridge rectifier does not allow current to pass in one direction, thus making the circuit unidirectional. The main function of the bridge rectifier is to convert AC voltage to DC voltage by rectifying the voltage waveform. This rectification process is achieved by connecting two sets of diodes in a bridge-like structure, as shown in the figure below. The pairs of diodes will conduct current in opposite directions, while blocking current in the reverse direction.

When the positive terminal of the AC source is connected to the positive terminal of the bridge rectifier, current will flow from the source through the diode D1 and reverse bias the diode D4. When the negative terminal of the AC source is connected to the negative terminal of the bridge rectifier, current will flow from the source through the diode D4 and reverse bias the diode D1. In this way, the diodes D1 and D4 will be alternately forward and reverse biased, causing the voltage waveform to be rectified. The output of the bridge rectifier is a DC voltage with a ripple component.
