The LM1086 is a high-performance 15V low dropout positive adjustable regulator, manufactured using National Semiconductor\'s advanced CMOS process and uses a unique three pin SOT-89/TO-220/TO-252 regulator. It is also available in a 5-pin SOT package. The LM1086 is designed to regulator an output voltage of up to 15V with a tolerance of ±1%. This regulated voltage can be adjusted by simply changing a resistor. The device is designed to have a very low dropout voltage of 190mV maximum, at the full load of 1.5A.

The LM1086 has an adjustable current limiter, which is designed to minimize power dissipation in output transistors, thus controlling the power dissipation within the load standard range. When the current exceeds the limiter, the output voltage begins to decrease as the current is further increased.

Working Principle
