Introduction

LM2772SDX/NOPB is a highly integrated VCO based DC-DC switching regulator/controller in Power Management Integrated Circuit (PMIC) series from Texas Instruments. It is designed for applications of forward or flyback type, such as power distribution, embedded systems, and digital power modules.

Application Field

LM2772SDX/NOPB is an advanced regulator for integration and extending the features of modern portable, distributed and mobile systems. In order to maximize the design flexibility with high efficiency and sophisticated loop-control, the chip ensures low output noise, effective transient response and excellent ripple suppression. Due to wide input voltage range, it could be applied to applications such as telecommunications and networking equipment, wireless systems, high-end CPUs and sequencers, laptops, PDAs, and so on, aiming at conserving the energy and optimizing the system performance.

Working Principle

LM2772SDX/NOPB works in constant switching frequency mode for controlling the output voltage. In order to regulate output voltage and keep the DC-DC in safe-operating conditions, the chip employs an open loop voltage-mode control architecture with the proportional integral controller and the advanced pulse-width modulator. During the cycle of output voltage, which includes valley and peak, the voltage-mode control architecture adjusts the on duration in order to attain the target output voltage. This technique ensures low output noise, effective transient response and excellent ripple suppression, by taking shortcuts in buck/boost providing high efficiency under any load condition.

In addition, the LM2772SDX/NOPB also offers 0.5% accurate reference voltage by employing high precision voltage band-gap internally, along with full digital and analog driver packages, up to current boost technology and secondary side protection functions. Thus, it enables the design an efficient DC-DC conversion system.
