Working Principle

The LM2797MM-1.8/NOPB is a current-mode, single-output switching regulator that uses a voltage-mode control loop to regulate the output voltage. The four main components of the control loop are an oscillator, power switch, error amplifier, and a current sense amplifier.

The internal oscillator produces a frequency of 400kHz. The oscillator signal is used to drive the power switch, which in turn, supplies the output voltage. The error amplifier compares the output voltage of the regulator to a reference voltage and adjusts the output voltage accordingly. If the output voltage is too low, the error amplifier increases the voltage to the power switch until it is equal to the reference voltage. If the output voltage is too high, then the error amplifier reduces the voltage to the power switch until it is equal to the reference voltage.

The current sense amplifier monitors the amount of current being drawn by the output voltage. If the current exceeds the pre-determined limit, the current sense amplifier will shut down the power switch. This prevents damage to the device due to excessive current draw.
