Operation

The LM285Z-1.2G consists of a low-power band gap reference and an adjustable error amplifier. The band gap reference provides a constant voltage reference, while the error amplifier boosts the output voltage of the band gap reference by a factor greater than unity.The input voltage (V IN ) is applied to the error amplifier. The voltage reference and the output voltage of the error amplifier are compared in the error amplifier. If the voltage reference is greater than the output voltage of the error amplifier, the error amplifier will increase its output voltage. Conversely, if the voltage reference is less than the output voltage of the error amplifier, the error amplifier will decrease its output voltage. This process is repeated until the two voltages match.The output voltage is adjustable by the external resistor resistance, R R . The output voltage is given by the equation V OUT = V REF * (1 + R R /R CTR ) where R CTR is a constant temperature resistor. The reference voltage of the LM285Z-1.2G is 1.2V. This voltage is buffered by the error amplifier and amplified by the external resistor. The output voltage of the error amplifier is regulated and maintained at the preset reference by the error amplifier.
