The LM2904F-E2 is a general-purpose operational amplifier that is part of a family of integrated circuits featuring low-current devices ideal for use in linear, instrumentation, and buffer amplification. Owing to its low power requirements and wide input voltage range, it is a favored choice for many applications.

The LM2904F-E2 utilizes an internally-manufactured voltage-assist topology with well-defined compensation features that allows it to deliver excellent common-mode rejection ratios (CMRRs) as well as high input and output impedance. Additionally, its output is capable of sourcing or sinking up to 250mA with appropriate use of external components.

The LM2904F-E2 is available in two supply voltage versions, 3V and 8V, for either single or dual supply operation. For single supply operation, the 3V version offers higher common-mode range (CMR), greater CMRR, lower quiescent current (Iq), and better power supply rejection ratio (PSRR). For most applications, the 8V version offers wider input common-mode voltage ranges (VCMR) and slightly better output swings compared to the 3V version.

The LM2904F-E2 is an ideal solution for applications that require linear and high-frequency wideband operations, high CMRR and PSRR, low Iq and low input offset voltage (Vio). For example, it is suitable for magnetic sensing, audio sensing, switching operation, and adjustable high/low-level logic threshold control.

Working Principle

The LM2904F-E2 uses the well-known differential direct-coupled amplifier topology providing its excellent linear performance. It consists of two input transistors that act as the differential inputs, a current source for biasing, and a pair of NPN output transistors. A voltage follower is employed in order to properly compensate the device for lower power operation. The INA pin is used to bias the current source in order to get the desired output current. The output bias current, Iq, is set by the voltage across the INA pin and by the load resistance at the output, allowing the user to customize the performance of the device in different applications.

The LM2904F-E2 features a wide common-mode range with excellent CMRR and PSRR. This product employs a gold-metalized dielectric film package that offers very good thermal characteristics. Thanks to its wide bandwidth, high slew rate, and low distortion (THD, etc.), the LM2904F-E2 can operate in many advanced applications with excellent performance.
