Linear Voltage Regulators are the basic building blocks of any power management circuit. The LM2931CDR2 is a low dropout (LDO) Linear Voltage Regulator from Texas Instruments, with an operating current of 500 mA, and a regulated output voltage range of 1.235V to 5V.

The LM2931CDR2 is a three-terminal, adjustable voltage regulator and features an input voltage range of 6V to 35V. It has an adjustable output voltage and a low dropout voltage of only 240 mV at full load. The LM2931CDR2 also has a thermal shutdown feature to prevent overheating and destruction of the Regulator.

This Voltage Regulator is ideal for use in applications such as medical and industrial instrumentation, optical storage systems, automotive devices and portable equipment. The LM2931CDR2 is available in a hermetic TO-263 package and can operate over a wide temperature range of up to -40°C to +125°C.

The LM2931CDR2 is designed to work with a low minimum input voltage and low ripple output voltage. It has a fast transient response and can control the output voltage with very good accuracy. The output can be adjusted from 1.235V to 5V.

The LM2931CDR2 uses an on-chip switch as the main driving element. This switch is controlled by an external resistor divider network, which provides the required output voltage. The LM2931CDR2 also has a current limit circuit which protects the device from over-current and short circuit conditions.

The chip is available in a variety of packages, including a version that is reflow solderable. The LM2931CDR2 can also be over-molded to provide additional protection against environmental hazards.
