LM293P Application Field and Working Principle

A linear-comparator, such as the LM293P, is a circuit used to compare two electric potentials, and provide an output signal indicative of their relationship. The LM293P enables us to select which side of a given reference voltage, or potential, an input signal is situated. It also provides us with an output signal that is used to trigger other circuitry or to regulate a specified circuit condition.

The LM293P differs from other linear-comparators in that it can be used for both single-ended and dual-ended inputs. It contains two general-purpose comparators (also called op-amps) and a voltage-level detector circuit. Together, these elements allow for the following two operations:

How Does the LM293P Work?
