LM2940SX-10 is a low dropout (LDO) linear regulator integrated with an adjustable output current limit. This device is designed with an PMIC—Voltage Regulators—Linear application in mind and is ideal for providing an adjustable current limit and low voltage output that can meet the needs of a variety of different applications.The LM2940SX-10 is composed of several distinct functional blocks including an adjustable output current limit, two modulation stages, two voltage reference stages, a voltage regulator, and two optional output drivers. The adjustable output current limit acts to protect the regulator from catastrophic over-current conditions, either due to sudden fault conditions or a defective load. This protection is provided by sensing the voltage drop across a current sensing resistor attached to the output of the regulator, and set by an external resistor network. The current limit is both adjustable and temperature compensated, providing a constant current level over a wide range of current and temperature conditions.The voltage regulator portion of the LM2940SX-10 provides a highly accurate, extremely stable regulated output voltage over a wide input voltage range. This is achieved by utilizing two modulation stages, two voltage reference stages, and the voltage regulator circuitry. The modulation stages are responsible for generating a signal that is used to control the voltage reference stages. The voltage reference stages are then used to set the output voltage of the device in response to this signal. The output voltage is adjustable via an external resistor network.The LM2940SX-10 also provides two optional output drivers, one intended for controlling an on/off switch and the other for controlling the PWM input of a system. The output drivers provide a low-voltage drop level-shifted input signal, allowing the device to be used for a variety of different functions such as driving the power switch of a processor or the PWM input of a fan or motor.In short, the LM2940SX-10 is a highly versatile and capable PMIC—Voltage Regulators—Linear solution that can meet the needs of a variety of different applications. It provides a highly accurate and stable output voltage, adjustable current limit, and optional output drivers.
