The LM3152MHE-3.3/NOPB is a medium-power, pulse-width modulating (PWM), DC to DC switching controller. It is a step-down, buck-type device that regulates output voltage from 1.25 V to the input voltage. The device is ideal for applications requiring very-low-noise operation, including clock, bias and ASIC power supplies.The LM3152MHE-3.3/NOPB features a 3.3 V fixed output voltage with a ±4% accuracy. The on resistance for both switches is guaranteed to 0.5 Ω. The operating junction temperature range is –40°C to +125°C.The LM3152MHE-3.3/NOPB incorporates several protection features such as under-voltage lockout (UVLO), over-voltage protection, over-current protection and thermal protection. The internal circuits are designed to reduce the amount of EMI generated.The power supply design with the LM3152MHE-3.3/NOPB starts with the determination of the input voltage and the required output voltage. The block diagram of the power supply design is illustrated in Figure 1.Figure 1. Block Diagram of the Power Supply DesignThe LM3152MHE-3.3/NOPB works in conjunction with an external P-Channel MOSFET and an N-Channel MOSFET. The P-Channel MOSFET is used as a synchronous rectifier, as it provides a high current path from the output of the DC/DC converter to the input. The P-Channel MOSFET also provides high efficiency, as it eliminates the need for an extra diode in the circuit. The N-Channel MOSFET is used as the main switch.The LM3152MHE-3.3/NOPB has an internal voltage comparator which compares the feedback voltage with a reference voltage. If the feedback voltage is higher than the reference voltage, the output of the comparator goes low, turning off the N-Channel MOSFET switch. This reduces the current flowing through the inductor and allows the inductor to store energy. When the feedback voltage decreases, the output of the comparator goes high, turning on the N-Channel MOSFET switch. This increases the current flowing through the inductor and ensures the inductor can store enough energy to maintain a constant output voltage.The internal oscillator sets the PWM frequency and the dead time. The dead time needs to be set such that it does not allow shoot-through to take place. The PWM output of the LM3152MHE-3.3/NOPB can be adjusted by changing the external compensation components.The LM3152MHE-3.3/NOPB is a high-efficiency, low-power DC to DC switching controller. It is ideal for applications requiring very-low-noise operation such as clock, bias and ASIC power supplies. The device is available in a surface-mount, 5-pin SOT-23 package and the voltage is fixed at 3.3 V. The LM3152MHE-3.3/NOPB also provides protection features such as UVLO, over-voltage protection, over-current protection and thermal protection.
