LM311PG4 Linear - Comparators

The LM311PG4 is a general purpose comparator with single supply operation and open collector outputs. It operates over a wide range of supply voltages and has a low power consumption. The LM311PG4 is a linear voltage comparator with an operating range of 0V to 15V and is capable of providing efficient and accurate results for applications such as precision voltage control, amplifiers, and optical isolators.

Working Principle

The LM311PG4 is a rail to rail CMOS linear comparator with added features. It has two internally regulated voltage comparator set points (Vrefs) and two input channels for differential input signals. The differential input stage converts the differential input signals into a single, unipolar voltage level. The voltage level is compared to the internally set Vrefs. The voltage level either high, low, or at the same level of the Vref. These levels are then transformed into logic level outputs. The output logic level is determined by the magnitudes of the differential input signals and the internally set voltage reference level.

The upper and lower voltage comparator set points (Vrefs) are internally adjustable and can be changed and tuned to match the desired output logic level. The input common-mode voltage of the LM311PG4 can range from 0V to 15V and the lower Vref range is from 0V to 14V and higher Vref up to 15V. This allows the comparator to be used with a wide range of input voltage levels.

The LM311PG4 is designed to provide a low power consumption (2.5 mW max) for a wide range of supply voltages, operating temperature range, and output current drive capabilities. The output can drive up to 30 mA with a 3V to 15V supply. The output is short circuit protected and the output state is protected against transients. The outputs can be pulled low or sink current. The output of the LM311PG4 will remain in its logic state until next measurement.
