The LM3153MHX-3.3/NOPB is a high-performance step-down synchronous switching controller. This device operates with a wide switching frequency range, and is suitable for applications such as power management systems, tablets, entry-level server systems and embedded computers. The LM3153MHX-3.3/NOPB provides a low solution cost while providing greater design flexibility with simple yet precise system level control.
Application field: the LM3153MHX-3.3/NOPB is a low-cost, high-efficiency synchronous controller with integrated high-side and low-side power MOSFETs. It is designed for high-current, high-performance, ultra-small solutions where size and efficiency are key design criteria. The LM3153MHX-3.3/NOPB performs switching operations from zero to 100% duty cycle with an internal soft-start operation. It also provides an external voltage Vin for programming the switching frequency from 300kHz to 500kHz, reducing the I2R losses of the circuit.
Working principle: The LM3153MHX-3.3/NOPB offers a combination of a high-side MOSFET switching device, with an adjustable output voltage (Vout). The device integrates a high-side and a low-side power MOSFET in a single package. The LM3153MHX-3.3/NOPB is designed to operate as a synchronous step-down converter capable of providing current up to 12A. It has a minimal component count, and an over-voltage protection feature which prevents the output voltage from exceeding its maximum level.
The device is equipped with an output voltage regulation loop that senses the output voltage. The output voltage is regulated through an external feedback network in combination with a voltage reference generating an adjustable output voltage. The output voltage can be trimmed using an external resistor divider connected between the output and the FB pin. To ensure accurate output voltage, the reference voltage has a high precision over the operating temperature range. To reduce output voltage ripple, additional capacitance is placed on the output of the device.
The LM3153MHX-3.3/NOPB provides a PWM signal whose duty cycle is proportional to the output voltage. The duty cycle increases or decreases as the output voltage rises or falls, respectively. The duty cycle is continuously increased or decreased by the control loop until the desired output voltage is reached. The synchronous PWM controller then maintains the desired output voltage with a minimum of external components. The device also includes internal over-voltage protection which limits the output voltage to the desired voltage.
