LM3215TLX-45/NOPB is a high-speed low noise step-down DC/DC Voltage Regulator that operates from an input source voltage range of 2.2 — 3.6V up to 18V. It has an output voltage of 0.8V and provides 0.5A output current while operating in a temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.

It features integrated high performance control, high frequency PWM switching, frequency adjustment, and low noise production. Certain features tailored for this regulator include a low start-up current (2.5µA max), fast transient response time (40µ s to 500µ s max), and regenerative Over-Current shut-down capability.

The LM3215TLX-45/NOPB works on the basic principle of voltage regulation by reducing the voltage from the primary source to a predetermined level. The integrated circuit is designed and fabricated using advanced CMOS process technologies. A rayed power transistor is coupled to the integrated circuit and acts as a switch. The transistor is turned “on” when the upper and lower sides of the power transistor are at different potentials. The input voltage is stepped down and regulated at the predetermined powering level, however any transient current is also suppressed by the power transistor acting as an output buffer. The circuit has an inductor and a diode coupled in the loop, between the input and the output. The function of the inductor is to store energy and the diode allows energy to flow only in one direction. In this fashion the current is limited and voltage is regulated.
