LM3224MM-ADJEV/NOPB is a powerful and efficient integrated circuit device, designed for off-line DC/DC and AC/DC switching power supply (SMPS) applications. It is a versatile controller, combining the features of a standard buck regulator, coupled with a low turn-on power consumption and improved line regulation.

The device is specifically designed to operate a wide input voltage range, from 2.25V to 80V, while providing an integrated high current totem pole output driver for a 3-level buck regulator. The working principle of the LM3224MM-ADJEV/NOPB starts with a fixed-frequency, peak current-limited low-side switch which is connected between the input voltage and the output voltage. When the output voltage reaches the value set in the program register, the integrated totem pole output driver will turn off the low-side switch, and the output voltage discharge path will be opened. As a result, the output voltage will maintain at the constant, predetermined voltage level. If the input voltage is lower than the output voltage, the regulator will deactivate the low-side switch, which will allow the output voltage to drop to maintain the output current.
