The LM3508TLEV LED Driver is an advanced power line dimmable booster led driver from Texas Instruments. It is an efficient boost-mode LED driver providing excellent dimming performance over a wide range of brightness levels for white LED lighting applications. It is suitable for mid to high power high brightness LED applications such as healthcare, automotive, industrial, commercial and residential lighting.
Evaluation Boards - LED Drivers
This device is a part of TI\'s evaluation boards, designed to simplify and speed up the design and evaluation of application circuits with their integrated pre-programmed functional GUI. This evaluation board demonstrates the working of the LM3508TLEV with an output of up to 30A and an input voltage of 8V-38V. This board also provides several protection features like over-voltage protection and short protection as well as several control schemes, including analog dimming, pulse-width modulation (PWM) dimming, and power line dimming.
LM3508TLEV Application Field and Working Principle
The LM3508TLEV has been developed for the rapidly growing market for Power-Line Dimming applications. Power line dimming is a technology for dimming LED lights by modulating the current delivered to the light source. This technology is being widely adopted due to its simplicity and low cost. The LM3508TLEV provides excellent dimming performance with minimal distortion and low power consumption.
The LM3508TLEV works on the Boost Principle. The Boost Principle involves Circuit which consists of two different stages, one increasing the Voltage while other reducing it. The first stage contains an inductor, which when the switch is open stores the energy, when the switch is closed the stored energy is released in the form of increased voltage.
The current is then processed in the second stage, which consists of a transistor, a resistor and a current sense amplifier. The transistor is used to control the current gain and the current sense to measure the base current. The resistor is used for the voltage dropping. In this operation, the current sink and the LF3055 are used in series. The current sink helps to reduce the output voltage to the desired level. The LF3055 is used to control the voltage drop during the dimming process.
The LM3508TLEV is designed to provide better dimming performance while keeping the power consumption to a minimum. It has been designed with advanced safety circuits to guard against any kind of short-circuit or overload. The evaluation board provides a good platform for evaluating the performance of this device.
