Working Principle
The LM3553SDX/NOPB is a monolithic PMIC with an integrated circuit driving up to 16 LEDs in parallel or up to 8 LEDs in series. The LM3553SDX/NOPB includes 5 power management components such as low-voltage (VSSOP-20) oscillator, dual-level voltage switch, MOSFET driver, high-speed current mirrors and voltage- controlled current source. Additionally, the LM3553SDX/NOPB includes features such as soft-start, current-limit and thermal disconnect to improve system reliability.
The operating principle of the LM3553SDX/NOPB is based on current-regulated power management. The regulated output current is regulated by a level-shifter voltage switch which is controlled by the oscillator. The current flows from the voltage source, through the level-shifter and then to the current mirrors which drive the LEDs. The current limit setting can be increased and decreased by adjusting the oscillator frequency. Additionally, the voltage-controlled current source is used to ensure a constant LED current over temperature and voltage variation.
