The LM46000PWPEVM is a versatile evaluation module or EVM for testing and evaluating the features and performance of the LM46000PW high-efficiency buck regulator from Texas Instruments. This evaluation board is used to evaluate the LM46000PW monolithic DC/DC converter, which is used for buck (step-down) power conversion from a wide input voltage range such as 5V to 12V to a regulated output voltage of less than 3.3V and up to 5V. The board is designed to be powered from the input voltage source with an integrated reverse current protection feature. It is intended to provide an easy and risk-free way to evaluate the features and performance of the LM46000PW device.
The LM46000PWPEVM evaluation board includes all the components necessary to operate the buck regulator with a minimum number of external components. It integrates a power switch, output capacitor, compensation networks, and a sense resistor. The external components are minimized to make the evaluation board easier to use and improve the accuracy of the in-system evaluation. The on-board switch, if used, regulates the LM46000PW\'s voltage output and enables over-temperature protection for termination of the power conversion cycle.
The evaluation board offers two operating modes for the buck regulator. In Continuous Mode (COM), the switch is turned on continuously until the output voltage reaches the voltage desired. This mode is recommended for stable output voltages. In PFM Mode (PMM), the switch is slowly switched on and off offering greater efficiency at light loads. This mode is recommended for applications requiring fast transient responses such as communications and portable systems.
This evaluation board employs a standard pinout, allowing the user to easily connect external components such as additional output capacitors, feedback dividers, and external shutdown logic. The board is also equipped with an enable pin that allows the user to turn the buck regulator on and off.
The LM46000PWPEVM evaluation board includes an onboard oscilloscope add-on option that allows users to easily measure feedback voltage and output current. This optional add on presents the user with a safe and effective way to measure feedback voltage and output current, as the oscilloscope signals are routed away from the buck regulator to prevent damage from accidental overloads. The oscilloscope trace can then be used to verify device functionality.
The LM46000PWPEVM evaluation board is designed to provide a reliable, cost-effective way for users to test the features and performance of the LM46000PW buck regulator and other similar DC/DC converters. It is intended for use in automotive, communication, consumer electronics, industrial and medical applications.
