1. Describe
The LM46002PWPR regulator is an easy-to-use synchronous step-down DC/DC converter capable of driving up to 2 A of load current from an input voltage ranging from 3.5 V to 60 V. The LM46002PWPR provides excellent efficiency, output accuracy and drop rate voltage in a very small solution size. The extended family is available in various load current options and pin-to-pin compatible 36V maximum input voltage packages including the LM46001, LM46000, LM43603, LM43602, LM43601 and LM43600. Peak current mode control for simple control loop compensation and cycle-by-cycle current limiting. Optional features such as programmable switching frequency, synchronization, power good flag, precision enable, internal soft-start, scalable soft-start and tracking provide a flexible and easy-to-use platform for a variety of applications. Discontinuous conduction and automatic frequency increase light load efficiency while reducing light load. This series requires very few external components. The pinout allows for simple, optimized PCB layout. Protection features include thermal shutdown, VCC undervoltage lockout, cycle-by-cycle current limit, and output short-circuit protection. The LM46002PWPR device is available in a 16-pin HTSSOP/PWP package (6.6mm x 5.1mm x 1.2mm) with 0.65mm pitch leads.

The LM46002PWPR is a step-down DC-DC regulator. It is typically used to convert higher DC voltages to lower DC voltages with a maximum output current of 2 A. The following design process can be used to select components for the LM46002PWPR. Alternatively, WEBENCH® software can be used to generate a complete design. When generating designs, WEBENCH® software utilizes an iterative design process and accesses a comprehensive component database.
7. Function description
The LM46002PWPR is a step-down buck regulator that integrates a high-side (HS) switch and a low-side (LS) switch (synchronous rectifier). The LM46002PWPR provides a regulated output voltage by turning on HS and LS NMOS switches with controlled on-time. During the on-time of the HS switch, the SW pin voltage VSW swings to approximately VIN and the inductor current IL increases with a linear slope of (VIN – VOUT) / L. When the HS switch is turned off by the control logic, the LS switch is turned on after the shoot-through dead time. Inductor The current is discharged through the LS switch with a slope of –VOUT/L. The control parameter of the buck converter is defined as the duty cycle D = tON / TSW, where tON is the HS switch on-time and TSW is the switching period. The regulator control loop maintains a constant output voltage by adjusting the duty cycle D. In an ideal buck converter, losses are ignored and D is proportional to the output voltage and inversely proportional to the input voltage: D = VOUT / VIN. The LM46002PWPR synchronous buck converter uses a peak current mode control topology. A voltage feedback loop is used to obtain accurate DC voltage regulation by adjusting the peak current command based on the voltage offset. The peak inductor current is sensed from the HS switch and compared to the peak current to control the on-time of the HS switch. The voltage feedback loop is internally compensated to reduce external components, making it easy to design and providing stable operation with almost any combination of output capacitors. The regulator operates at a fixed switching frequency in CCM and DCM. At very light loads, the LM46002PWPR operates at PFM to maintain high efficiency, and the switching frequency decreases as the load current decreases.
