The LM5574EVAL evaluation board is a DC/DC and AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS (switch mode power supply) used for evaluating and testing the various capabilities of the LM5574. It provides a complete power management system for offline applications, and is a high-efficiency, low-cost solution for providing voltage regulation. The LM5574EVAL supports 2 different output voltage ranges, from 0.8 V to 5 V and from 0.9 V to 5 V. It features integrated dual-mode control scheme and wide input voltage range.
The LM5574EVAL application field includes LED drivers, battery chargers, notebook and desktop PCs, USB/Serial converters, broadband amplifiers, and mobile telecom base-stations. The LM5574EVAL working principle is based on an innovative design concept that provides both the power section and the control circuitry in a single integrated circuit. It has a dual-mode control circuit which consists of a pulse frequency modulation (PFM) controller and an energy-saving pulse-width modulation (PWM) controller which provides a very wide input voltage range. This provides the output voltage with very stable output voltage regulation over a wide AC input. The LM5574EVAL also has a built-in Constant On Time (COT) mode which ensures very fast transient response and provides improved light load efficiency for every output power application.
The LM5574EVAL also features various integrated circuit (IC) protection options. It has an input over-voltage and negative voltage clamp protection, along with an output short circuit protection. The LM5574EVAL also features an integrated under-voltage lockout (UVLO) circuit for the input and output which prevents any potential damage due to over-short circuit, over-voltage or under-voltage faults. Its integrated thermal protection further ensures that the LM5574EVAL will not overheat, even under extreme conditions.
To provide additional protection, the LM5574EVAL also offers a built-in high-voltage spike suppression circuit and an internal current limit circuit. This ensures that the system is safe from power surges and avoids an overload situation. The LM5574EVAL also has an integrated noise suppression filter for both the input and the output to ensure noise-free operation.
