Temperature Sensors - Analog and Digital Output LM70CILD-5 is an integrated temperature sensor designed to measure the temperature of an external object. The LM70CILD-5 is available in a variety of packages to fit a variety of applications.
Overview
The LM70CILD-5 has an integrated sensor element that is a monolithic structure consisting of bipolar transistors which measure and convert the object temperature to an output voltage. The output voltage is directly proportional to the absolute temperature (PTAT) over the operating temperature range of -40°C to +125°C. Additionally, the LM70CILD-5 offers a high over-temperature shutdown threshold from +140°C to +160°C.

Application Field and Working Principle
The LM70CILD-5 integrated temperature sensors are used in many applications such as medical, automotive, and industrial. The internal structures of the LM70CILD-5 sensor allow it to measure and convert the temperature of an external object to an output voltage. The sensor consists of Programmed Transistor Arrays (PTAs), which are individually optimized to measure the temperature. The optimized PTA structure enhances the accuracy of the sensor over the full temperature range and reduces the power consumption of the sensor. The PTAs generate an output voltage directly proportional to the temperature which is then transferred to the voltage output pin of the LM70CILD-5.
The LM70CILD-5 has two types of output, analog and digital. The analog output voltage range is 0V to 1V, corresponding to the temperature range of -40°C to +125°C. The digital output is a 2-bit Code word, also corresponding to the temperature range of -40°C to +125°C. The LM70CILD-5 also has a high over-temperature shutdown threshold from +140°C to +160°C. This feature provides the user with a protection against runaway temperatures. The LM70CILD-5 also has internal thermal compensation which allows it to maintain its high accuracy even with a large ambient temperature variation.
