Industrial control and automation systems have become paramount in practically all the fields of Engineering. Linear amplifiers are integrals in such systems as they provide amplification and signal conditioning. The LMC6492AEMX is a rail-to-rail voltage-output CMOS amplifier manufactured by Texas Instruments that is needed to interface transducers over electronic data highways.

The LMC6492AEMX belongs to the Linear-Amplifiers-Instrumentation-OP-Amps-Buffer-Amps family, a subset of Industrial Processing Chips (IPC). It has a voltage output range of ±2V to ±6V with a power supply voltage range of 4.5V to 14V and a quiescent current of 1µA. Its supply current varies from 6.1mA to 6.5mA and its offset voltage is at 5mV or less when operating within the specified temperature range of –40°C to 125°C. It also features a slew rate of 16V/µs, input voltage noise of 5.5nV/√Hz and an open-loop voltage gain of 120 dB.

At its essence, the working principle of the LMC6492AEMX is not too dissimilar to the 90° amplifier. It operates on the principle of differential inputs and output voltage conversion for better signal conditioning and power efficiency. The amplifier has two inputs – an inverting and a non-inverting and an output. The output voltage is proportional to the difference between the two inputs. Depending on the supply voltage and the voltage at the input pins, the output voltage is either greater than or less than the supply voltage.

The LMC6492AEMX specific architecture ensures the highest performance and low thermal resistance. These characterizes make it perfect for a wide range of aerospace, industrial and consumer applications. The amplifier can be used in instrumentation required where large signal output, dynamic range and accuracy are needed.
