The LMS1585AIT-ADJ/NOPB is one of the latest additions to the Linear Voltage Regulators in the PMIC (Power Management Integrated Circuits) family of products. This Power Management Integrated Circuit is a complex, integrated circuit (IC) encapsulation and build package that includes a wide range of supplemental components and functionality to regulate and control the flow of electrical power.
This sophisticated IC design packages transistors, diodes and resistors, as well as control logic within a single package to afford durability, dependability and simple circuit construction. It is designed to control multiple output voltages as well as regulate current. It is capable of producing either regulated or unregulated output.
The LMS1585AIT-ADJ/NOPB application field includes voltages from 3V to 28V DC, and it provides excellent performance in a variety of regulated and non-regulated applications. It is suitable for use in such applications as Portable Devices, Telecommunication Equipment, Industrial and Automotive Battery Management, Medical and Portable Audio Equipment, as well as LCD Panel Displays.
The working principle of the LMS1585AIT-ADJ/NOPB linear regulator is based on a linear feedback loop. The output voltage of the device is monitored and compared to an internal reference voltage; any discrepancies are corrected by increasing or decreasing the drive current to the output, in order to maintain the set output voltage. The linear output is adjustable so that the output voltage can be calibrated to an exact voltage value.
The input voltage is applied to the input of the regulator; this voltage is converted to a voltage relative to a reference ground. This voltage is compared to the internal reference voltage and any discrepancy is corrected by increasing or decreasing the drive current to the output side of the linear regulator. The amount of current required to maintain the set voltage is based on the load current, the reference voltage and the resistance of the regulator.
