Introduction

The LMS5214IMG-3.3/NOPB is a low-noise, high-precision, low-dropout linear regulator. It is a kind of PMIC - Voltage Regulators - Linear. It offers fast, accurate and reliable performance for computing and communications platforms, industrial, medical and general-purpose portable applications.

Features

The LMS5214IMG-3.3/NOPB features a very low ±1.5mV during light load current and low-noise operation. Its advanced error amplifier and low-dropout control circuit provide fast and extremely accurate response. The regulator also features high-side current sensing, rail voltage sensing, and integrated compensation to simplify design. Its low-noise operation ensures reliable performance, even in noisy environments. The LMS5214IMG-3.3/NOPB is also capable of supplying up to 300mA of load current and operates from a single, ultra-low-noise 1.8V input.

Application

Working Principle

The working principle of the LMS5214IMG-3.3/NOPB is based on a leading-edge error amplifier, an adjustable bandgap reference, a low-dropout control circuit, and a low-noise current mirror. The error amplifier keeps the output voltage fixed and works along with the bandgap reference to adjust the current in the pass-transistor. The low-dropout control circuit senses the minimum output voltage that can be maintained before the output voltage starts to drop. The low-noise current mirror monitors the output current and limits it to ensure the stability and accuracy of the system. The bandgap reference provides an accurate voltage reference and works with the error amplifier to provide fast and accurate tracking of load current. Finally, the output current is also limited by an overtemperature protection circuit to ensure safety of the system from overcurrent events.
