The voltage between the two is controlled by a pass element, or an FET or a PMOS, which is embedded in the device. The reference voltage is provided internally, and the output voltage is determined by an external resistor divider.When the load current is increased, the voltage between the output and the reference voltage also increases. This increase causes the embedded element to open and the output voltage to drop. When the load current is reduced, the embedded element closes, and the output voltage rises again. This process repeats itself and maintains the voltage difference between the output and the reference voltage at a constant level, thus ensuringregulating the output voltage.The LP2980AIM5X-4.0/NOPB also includes over-current, over-temperature and reverse-current protection features. It is a RoHS-compliant, low noise, and low-power solution for low-dropout performance and high noise immunity applications.
