LP2998QMRX/NOPB is a special purpose voltage regulator designed for mobile and digital applications. The IC is designed to enhance system efficiency, improve power management, reduce power dissipation and extend battery life. The device operates on a 2.7V to 5.5V supply voltage range and provides low dropout and low quiescent current features. It also features an integrated temperature-sensitive circuit that can provide temperature-based adjustability.

The LP2998QMRX/NOPB works on a principle of current regulation. The device begins regulating limited current based on the voltage controlled by the R2 pin. The regulated current is output from the open-drain OUT pin. When the input voltage is above the regulated voltage, the current increases proportionately as the input voltage decreases. At the same time, the R2 pin is regulated to maintain the proper current limit. If the input voltage decreases below the output voltage, the current decreases proportionately as the input voltage decreases. If the load current is increased, the output voltage falls accordingly. A diode is required to protect the device from reverse voltages.

The device is available in the TO-252, QFN, and the I-Temp packages. The TO-252 package is suitable for surface mount applications, while the QFN and I-Temp packages are ideal for through hole mounting.
