The Texas Instruments LP3470M5-4.00/NOPB is a family of Power Supply Supervisors (PSS) designed to accurately monitor multiple power supply lines, interpret the data and trigger a reset or other action if any of the supply lines deviate from predetermined settings. Working Principle

The LP3470M5-4.00/NOPB PSS family is composed of two integrated circuits, a voltage supervisor and a watchdog timer. The voltage supervisor monitors the supply voltage of the system for undervoltage, overvoltage, and power loss conditions via the three-level sampling system. The voltage supervisor outputs a reset signal and interrupts a connected A/D converter or a microprocessor if any of these conditions are detected, thus maintaining system stability. The watchdog timer is designed to ensure the integrity of control and timing elements in the system. The watchdog timer has the ability to detect if the system has stopped or stalled, namely if the microprocessor or an A/D converter has dropped to an idle or stopped state, and will generate a reset signal to restart the system.

The LP3470M5-4.00/NOPB PSS family utilizes two pins to control the watchdog timer; a Trigger Enable (TENA) pin that enables and disables the watchdog, and a Watchdog Pulse (WD) pin that periodically resets the timer depending on the set time interval. When the pulse comes through the WD pin, the system will reset the reset timer. If the TENA pin is set to the low logic state, the timer will be disabled and will not be triggered by either the WD pin or timeout of the reset timer. The LP3470M5-4.00/NOPB PSS family includes an internal voltage comparator that is used to detect if the voltage in the system has gone above or below a predetermined threshold. If either of these conditions is detected, the voltage supervisor will trigger the reset signal.

The LP3470M5-4.00/NOPB PSS family is designed with integrated level shifters to facilitate communication between multiple voltage domains. It also offers protection against overcurrent and over temperature conditions, thus further enhancing the safety of the system.
