Working Principle of the LP38691SDX-ADJ
The LP38691SDX-ADJ has an adjustable output voltage that is programmed by external resistors. The input voltage range is 2.2-5.5V and the output voltage range is 0.825-3.375V with an accuracy of ±1%. Its external components are designed to deliver a maximum output current of 1A. The voltage range is adjustable by changing the external resistors or the output voltage can be enabled from 0V to 3.65V with a single external resistor.
The LP38691SDX-ADJ is based on an internal error amplifier which compares the output voltage referred to the adjustment pin to an internal reference. When the output voltage does not match the setpoint, the error amplifier adjusts the gate of the internal P-channel MOSFET so that the output voltage is forced to follow the setpoint. The internal P-channel MOSFET passes current from input to output, so the output voltage is defined by its resistance times the current that it sinks from the adjustment pin.
