LP3981ILDX-2.8 is an integrated circuit (IC) composed of voltage regulator, linear voltage regulator and low dropout regulator (LDO). It is intended to be used in handheld electronic devices, such as mobile phones, notebook and laptop computers, portable gaming devices and digital camera. This IC contains one output voltage regulator with adjustable voltage range, one low drop output voltage regulator and one input filter for power conditioning of a digital system. It is designed to provide regulated output voltage of 1.8 VDC with minimal input voltage of 1.8 VDC. With a single resistor, the output voltage can be adjusted from 1.8 to 5 VDC.

LP3981ILDX-2.8 is a low-dropout (LDO) regulator designed to convert a constant input voltage into a controlled and well regulated output voltage. It is designed to maximize its efficiency thanks to an advanced bipolar process (BiCMOS) and an accurate voltage regulation in order to minimize the power consumption of the system. The low-dropout design allows the output voltage to remain within a few hundreds of millivolts of the input voltage, thus allowing the regulator to work with minimal voltage losses. Additionally, its capability to achieve high power efficiency and low power losses makes it ideal for portable electrical applications.

The main feature of LP3981ILDX-2.8 is the load current mirroring. The load current mirroring is a feature implemented in the design of the voltage regulator IC whereby the load current is reflected in the output voltage. The load current is derived from the load current of the device. This feature enables the voltage regulator to maintain its set output voltage even in case of significant changes in the load current. This feature also allows the output voltage to be held within a wide range of load currents and ensure the same output voltage is observed for varying load current levels.
