LPY430ALTR is a motion sensor gyroscope designed to measure angular velocity and acceleration of rotating objects. It is designed to provide high accuracy and low noise performance for rotational rate sensing in high-precision applications. It is based on a modern MEMS (MicroElectroMechanical System) technology featuring an oscillating structure with an appropriate driving and sensing mechanism, such as piezo-electric effect.

The LPY430ALTR is a dual-axis MEMS gyroscope which offers an angular rate range of ±200 °/s and a full-scale sensitivity of 16bit/LSB over a temperature range of -40℃ to 85℃. It features a versatile interface and is able to communicate with most microcontrollers. The gyroscope consists of a multifunctional core part consisting of a frame (motor housing) and a sensing mechanism inside. It also comprises of a low-pass filter, accelerometer, temperature sensor and digital signal processor (DSP) all integrated in the same package.

The LPY430ALTR uses a quartz tuning fork as a motor. This small quartz tuning fork is fitted with electrodes which act as drive and sense electrodes to form the sensing mechanism. The inertial effects of the tuning fork are converted into electrical signals through piezoelectricity. All motions are detected by the alternating voltage output which is generated when the fork oscillates at its fundamental frequency. The output is then conditioned and applied to the respective digital signal processor (DSP) of the microcontroller.

The LPY430ALTR is commonly used in motion sensing systems, such as gaming systems, drones and robotics, where accurate angular rate and acceleration measurements are required.
