ANSI/ISA-S50.02-2010 (IEC/EN 60947-5-1, third edition) defines snap action limit switches as electromechanical devices containing contacts able to open or close a circuit when a physical motion or quantity of travel called operating travel of the actuator is reached. Safety limit switches are designed to provide an electrical and /or mechanical interlock to protect personnel, equipment, processes and material. Generally, industrial limit switches are used to open or close an electrical circuit when manually operated or when an item moves past the limit switch within a certain range.
LS2C4L: LS2C4L is one of the most common types of snap action limit switches consisting of a flat actuator with two leaf springs that pivot within a stainless steel housing. A four- or six-sided slider jog button, or a three- or six-sided lever actuator, is mounted to the flat actuator through a threaded shoulder bolt. Each contact block contains a microswitch for opening and closing the contacts. The housing is weatherproofed to IP69K, which offers protection from dust and water ingress.
Application Field: The LS2C4L limit switch is dedicated for indoor usage, for controlling doors and for automatic machines in the electronic, textile, steel and chemical industry. The switch can be used for manual and machine-operated applications such as detecting sudden movement, level control, and door openings and closings. A single-pole double-throw contact structure can provide simple on/off switching.
Working Principle:The working principle of a LS2C4L limit switch is as follows: When manual or machine-operated, the actuator travels to its operating position. The contact blocks remain in their original position until the actuator reaches the operating position. At this point, the two contact blocks move toward each other and the microswitches inside the contact blocks are actuated, making the contacts open or close, dependent on the default setting. The actuator is then returned to its original position and the contact blocks move away from each other. The contacts then return to their original positions.
LS2C4L limit switches are versatile and offer a variety of advantages, such as ease of installation, operation, and maintenance. The selection of the limit switch to use for a particular application is determined by the type of actuator, contact closure, and environmental conditions.
