LT1076CT7-5#PBF is a synchronous step-down DC/DC converter with integrated FET and high frequency switching. The IC integrates an LDO for output voltage monitoring and protection, and a current loop for high efficiency.
The first operation is the switching cycle. During the power-up sequence, the internal high-side MOSFET (Q1) is activated by the internal gate driver, switching the inductor and capacitor. The current through the inductor then rapidly increases and, once it reaches the targeted peak current level, the internal gate driver turns off Q1, generating the magnetic energy flux in the inductor.
The second operation is the rectification cycle. The magnetic energy accumulated in the inductor is then rectified by the internal low-side MOSFET (Q2) during its activated period and energy is stored in the output capacitor as an output voltage. The rectified current also flows through the current-sense-resistor (RS) which is connected to the current-sense pin (CS). The voltage drop is monitored by the current loop and compared with the reference voltage of the internal error amplifier, thus providing necessary feedback for current loop control.
The last operation is the protection cycle. The internal circuitry provides several protections for LC1076CT7-5#PBF, including current limit protection, over temperature lockout, over-voltage protection and short-cross protection. The regulated output voltage is also monitored by an internal LDO and if the output voltage falls below the programmed voltage, the IC will be shut down.
