LT1084CT#PBF Application Field and Working Principle
PMIC - Voltage Regulators - Linear The LT1084CT#PBF is an adjustable high-performance low drop-out positive 3-terminal linear regulator. It provides an output adjustable between 1.5V to 33V with a current output capability of 5A. It is designed to replace a wide range of adjustable and fixed regulators. Its capabilities, along with its temperature range make this regulator ULTRA-FLEXIBLE.The LT1084CT#PBF features a unique foldback current limit which reduces the current when the output voltage is drooping due to high load current and/or input voltage. This foldback current limiting current keeps the device\'s power dissipation low when the output is drooping and prevents input voltage overshoot. The low dropout voltage of 500mV and input voltage range of 1.2V to 33V make it suitable for a wide range of applications in a variety of power supplies. It is particularly useful for keeping the output voltage during start-up and for maintaining the voltage when the input voltage is lower than the output voltage.The LT1084CT#PBF has an internal thermal protection circuit which shuts down the output voltage when the temperature exceeds the limit. This feature protects the device from damage due to excessive temperature.The LT1084CT#PBF is suitable for general-purpose use, including computer peripherals, telecommunications equipment, industrial equipment and automotive applications. The LT1084CT#PBF is available in TO-3, TO-126, and SO-8 packages and the pins are electrically the same. The output voltage is adjusted using the external reference resistor. The output can be adjusted over the full adjustable range using an external resistor divider.The LT1084CT#PBF is designed for low power applications. It offers low dropout voltage, wide input voltage range, and high efficiency and features a temperature-compensated current-limiting circuit that reduces output current and eliminates overshoot/undershoot of the output voltage on load or line transients.The LT1084CT#PBF has a low output voltage accuracy, allowing the output voltage to be set precisely to the required voltage. The output voltage can be easily trimmed from its rated value by varying the reference resistor value. This makes it ideal for applications where precise voltage control is critical.The LT1084CT#PBF is capable of delivering up to 5A of continuous output current, depending upon the input voltage and the output current. It can supply up to 8A in peak transient currents with a maximum 20ms pulse duration. To keep the output voltage stable over the full input voltage range, the regulator is equipped with an offset voltage null adjustment which helps the regulator to adjust the bias levels to maintain the output voltage at its rated value with varying input voltage.LT1084CT#PBF has been designed to keep output voltage stable over full temperature range and over a wide range of input voltages. Its output voltage can be easily trimmed by adjusting the trim pin voltage.Overall, LT1084CT#PBF is a high-performance low drop-out positive 3-terminal linear regulator designed for a wide range of applications. Its features make it suitable for industrial, automotive, telecommunications and computer applications.
