LT1720CMS8#PBF is an integrated 9-pin SOT-23, three-terminal comparator designed for fast voltage comparisons. It is a low powered, bipolar Linear-Comparator with an open-drain output, specificially designed to minimize errors caused by common-mode voltages. The LT1720CMS8#PBF is an ideal choice for applications where low power and low-voltage performance are essential.
A typical application circuit of the LT1720CMS8#PBF is shown in Figure 1. The external components necessary for operation include a reference voltage (Vref), an offset voltage, and a power supply and ground. The comparator’s very low power performance makes it possible to operate from a single supply. The input common-mode range of the comparator is equal to the range of the positive power supply voltage (Vcc), so the offset voltage may be used to adjust the inputs for a desired DC operating point.
In operation, the LT1720CMS8#PBF compares the voltage between its IN+ and IN- pins. If the voltage between the inputs is greater than the reference voltage, the output is high and if the voltage is lower than the reference voltage, the output is low. The output is also buffered and inverted, so that the output is low if the voltage between the inputs is greater than the reference voltage, and the output is high if the voltage is lower than the reference voltage.
The LT1720CMS8#PBF is designed to minimize errors caused by common-mode voltages by utilizing a low bias current input stage and an open-drain output buffer. The open-drain output buffer is a low-impedance output stage, allowing the device to operate from neither pull-up nor pull-down resistors. In addition, the open-drain output buffer also makes the device noise immune and able to drive loads greater than 1A.
The LT1720CMS8#PBF also features wide common-mode and differential input range, low input current and low power consumption. With typical supply current of 3.6mA, the LT1720CMS8#PBF is ideal for low power applications. It also features low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of -67dB, high slew rate of 40V/us and wide common-mode and differential input ranges of 2V to 22V.
The LT1720CMS8#PBF is the ideal choice for precision voltage comparison and signal level detection. Its low power consumption and high accuracy make it well suited for applications such as multiplexers, battery monitors, motor controls, temperature monitors, and analog-to-digital converters.
