LT3009ESC8-1.2#TRPBF Application Field and Working Principle
The LT3009ESC8-1.2#TRPBF is a Linear voltage regulator, most commonly used in low power regulated power supply applications and motor driver control systems. A linear voltage regulator has the advantage of providing stable voltage output, low-output ripple, low power consumption and low EMI since the switching voltage regulator has an inductor which can generate much noise. The LT3009ESC8-1.2#TRPBF series voltage regulator also has the features of wide input voltage range, adjustable output voltage, fast transient response, low output noise, thermal shutdown protection and overcurrent protection.
The LT3009ESC8-1.2#TRPBF is one type of Linear voltage regulator, with a wide input voltage range from 3 to 40V and the adjustable output voltage from 0.9 to 36V. As for the output current, there are two kinds of maximum output current for the LT3009ESC8-1.2#TRPBF series. One is 2A, which is achieved when the/Dinput differential voltage is above 2V and the output voltage is higher than 5V. The other one is 1A, which is achieved when the input voltage differential voltage is above 3V and the output voltage is no higher than 5V.
Working Principle
Linear voltage regulator, such as LT3009ESC8-1.2#TRPBF, works by reducing the incoming electrical current which is fluctuating and uncertain. Compared with the switching regulators, the control element in the linear voltage regulator is a transistor. When the output voltage is higher than the minimum required voltage, the voltage regulator will decrease the current flow to the load, maintaining the output voltage at a regulated value.
The LT3009ESC8-1.2#TRPBF series voltage regulator mainly consists of two stages, modulation circuit and post regulator. The modulation circuit is the main power management part, which turns the input voltage into a fixed output voltage. This part will detect the frequency and amplitude of the input voltage, adjusting the output voltage accordingly.
