The LT3791HFE works in an auto-trigger start up mode. Once power is applied, the internal charge pump charges up until the power supply voltage is high enough to trigger the startup. After startup, the internal power supply, consisting of a MOSFET bridge and charge pump, provides the power to drive the Power Integrator. The current amplifier inside the Power Integrator is used to control the LED current, while providing mains voltage line regulation.

The LT3791HFE includes over-current and over-temperature protection features. In the case of an overload or over temperature event, the output will be disabled, and the internal logic monitors the conditions and restarts the circuit automatically. Additionally, the device supports under-voltage locking which helps preventing unintentional startup by blocking the internal power supply of the device below a preset UVLO threshold.
