LT3840MPFE is a monolithic synchronous step-down switching regulator that is designed for DC to DC conversion applications in the range of 2.7V to 5.5V. Its high integration level and easy to use features make it ideal for many voltage regulation and current control applications. The LT3840MPFE is designed to minimize external components and minimize the size of the power circuit design.
The LT3840MPFE has an operating temperature range of -30°C to +85°C, and is available in a small 4 mm x4 mm MLF (Quad Flat Non-leaded) package. The LT3840 includes an active-low enable pin and an adjustable/fixed maximum peak current limit mode. Internally, the device is protected against cycle-by-cycle current limit and short circuit conditions, and also includes a thermal shutdown protection and an overvoltage protection.
The LT3840MPFE monolithic synchronous step-down switching regulators allow for the implementation of DC to DC conversion applications with input voltage of 2.7 to 5.5V and output voltage from 1.25V to 4.9V. The maximum load current is 1.3A and a power dissipation of 4W.
The LT3840MPFE works based on a push-pull topology which exploits the principle of pulse frequency modulation and Pulse Width Modulation (PWM). It includes an internal power MOSFET that is capable to switch up to 1.3A. When the enable pin is pulled low, the LT3840MPFE is shut off and the current consumption is close to 0mA. Moreover, the high switching frequency allows for the use of small filter components.
The LT3840MPFE is designed to ensure a very high efficiency across the full input voltage range. The output voltage ripple is minimized due to an internal compensation network which, in addition to minimizing noise, helps keep the output voltage ripple below 1%. The device also features a low threshold enable pin that allows the user to regulate their dynamic load, which reduces the power dissipation.
