Linear technology firm (Todd) holds one of the leading positions in the development of special integrated circuits currently available on the market. The LT6119 has been designed as a low quiescent current, low-noise instrumentation amplifier. Generally, instrumentation amplifiers are used as a “building blocks” for signal conditioners.

The LT6119 belongs to a family of instrumentation amplifiers with single supply, low quiescent current, wide bandwidth, and low-noise. This particular device is the responsibility of the Linear Technology\'s Todd division.

The LT6119 offers a wide range of market applications. Generally, it can be used in medical electronics, industrial process control, automotive, and rail electronics. The main usage of instrumentation amplifiers is to amplify low-level signals with low-noise, low offset, and low-drift features. Moreover, the LT6119 provides wide bandwidth, low quiescent current, and linear power supply rejection ratio.

The LT6119 is a three-operational-amplifier (3OA) instrumentation amplifier that uses a single supply. It provides an input-voltage range of up to ±100V, which makes it ideal for many industrial applications. The thermal drift of the instrumentation amplifier is low, and it supports low-voltage operation. The output of the LT6119 can be made adjustable such that free-running levels can be defined with the help of an external capacitor. In addition, the device provides good electrical isolation between the input, output, and power pin to reduce the electromagnetic interference.

The instrumental amplifier uses three parts for its operation. The first part is the first amplifier or differential amplifier, which has two inputs and one output. The second part is the second amplifier or the summing amplifier which adds the differential amplifier\'s output with the offset voltage to provide an output. The offset voltage is applied to the summing amplifier\'s inverting input. The last part is the gain setting network, which is located between the summing amplifier\'s non-inverting input and the differential amplifier\'s output.

The LT6119 offers wide-range of gain adjustment which includes gain as low as 0.05 to as high as 1000. The circuit of the LT6119 is designed such that the gain is given by the ratio of two resistors – R1 and R2. When the resistors are of equal value, the gain of the amplifier is 1. If R2 is twice that of R1, the gain of the amplifier is 2. The resistors in the amplifier can be selected within the given range to adjust the gain to the desired level.

The LT6119 uses a single power supply and provides wide-range of power supply rejection ratio (PSRR) which helps in reducing the effects of power supply noise. The device provides a power supply voltage of a maximum of 18V and a minimum of 16V. The input range of the amplifier is +12V to -12V and the output range is dependent on the power supply voltage.

The LT6119 is a versatile amplifier and is applicable in many different applications such as medical electronics, industrial and process control, automotive and rail electronics, data acquisition and control, and measurement and test instruments.
