LTC1518CS#TRPBF is an integrated device encompassing a pair of matched 10V user adjustable reference voltage shunt regulators, a pair of comparators, a N-Channel enhancement mode MOSFET and a driver circuit. It is designed to be used in conjunction with an external microcontroller to provide an interface to an analog signal, such as a temperature sensor or other transducers, and the system that it is operating in. The LTC1518CS#TRPBF can be used to provide a variety of signals such as thermocouples, strain gauges, pressure transducers and other signals that require a precise analog interface.
The LTC1518CS#TRPBF utilizes a pair of reference voltage shunt regulators, which are adjustable from a nominal 0V to VCC of +10V. These adjustable references shunt a portion of the supply current to provide a very precise voltage level at VREF. The two comparators compare the voltage level at the VREF pins with the voltage level at the COMM pin. When the voltage at the COMM pin exceeds the voltage at the VREF pins, the comparators output a low state, signifying that the external signal is higher than the set reference level.
The LTC1518CS#TRPBF also utilizes a N-Channel MOSFET to provide an interface to the external signal. The MOSFET is rated at 50V and can handle up to 15A of current. The MOSFET is used to control the amount of current that is supplied to the external circuit depending on the voltage level at the COMM pin. When the voltage level at the COMM pin is higher than the voltage level at the VREF pins, the MOSFET conducts and supplies current to the external circuit, otherwise the MOSFET is in a non-conducting state.
The LTC1518CS#TRPBF also includes a driver circuit that is used to supply a signal to the external circuit depending on the voltage level at the COMM pin. When the voltage level at the COMM pin is higher than the voltage level at the VREF pins, the driver circuit output is activated and supplies a signal to the external circuit. This signal can be used to drive a relay, a solid state switch or other external circuits.
