PMIC - Hot Swap Controllers are used to protect sensitive system components from unexpected power-on or current ramp rates by monitoring the input or output voltage of the system for excessive or insufficient levels. The LTC1642ACGN#TRPBF is a high performance, low cost, Hot Swap controller designed to protect a wide range of sensitive circuitry from overvoltages, undervoltages and overcurrents.

The LTC1642ACGN#TRPBF is designed to protect critical components such as FPGAs, servers, high-end storage devices, and circuit boards from damage due to overvoltage, undervoltage and overcurrent. It has an adjustable current limit that ranges from 0.5A to 5A and an adjustable voltage limit that can be set from 4V to 21V. It also has dual hot-swap comparators which shut off the output voltage if the voltage in either channel exceeds the user-set limits.

The device has an internal PFM controller which allows the user to adjust the power output over a wide range. It also has an overvoltage protection system and an undervoltage lockout feature.
