Data Acquisition - Analog to Digital Converters (ADCs) are used to convert analog signals into digital signals for use in digital systems where digitized data can be processed, stored, and analyzed. The LTC2158IUP-12#PBF is a low cost and high-speed IC featuring a 16-bit resolution, 14-bit accuracy, and a wide operating range of 3V to 18V. This device is suitable for various applications such as medical, automotive, and instrumentation.

The LTC2158IUP-12#PBF is a low-power,  low-noise, complete analog-to-digital (A/D) converter that samples and simultaneously digitizes at a rate of 2.5MSPS (mega samples per second). The working principle behind the LTC2158IUP-12#PBF is fairly simple. The analog voltage to be converted is first amplified by the device\'s discrete amplifier circuit and then sent to the input analog multiplexer where it is selected by one of four sources: either directly from the differential input port, a known internal reference voltage, an external reference voltage, or a combination of both the internal and external reference voltages. The 14-bit SARs then output the digital version of the input analog voltage.

Once the data is digitized, it is sent to the 12-bit parallel output bus for processing. This bus properly aligns the output data in a form easily accepted by digital processors and logic devices. The LTC2158IUP-12#PBF is also programmable; a dedicated 3-bit register allows the output data format to be adjusted from 12-bit to 8-bit to gain the highest resolution at low data rates.

The LTC2158IUP-12#PBF offers a wide range of features and options to optimize performance. The device features an integrated programmable gain amplifier (PGA) which gives the device flexible input range and range selectability, allowing it to optimize with any source signal. It includes a single supply operation with a wide voltage range (3V to 18V), low-noise track and hold (T&H), a low power consumption, integrated reference, and auto-zeroing. It also has an integral power-down mode, allowing it to turn the device off while maintaining the state of the output register. The device also has several digital-to-analog control pins, to control the gain of the amplifier, the reference voltage, the output data format, and the power down mode.
