LTC2435-1IGN#PBF is a high performance 12-bit No Latency Delta-Sigma (ΔΣ) analog-to-digital converter (ADC) with an integrated reference and two-bit dyad oversampling correction. Working Principle
The LTC2435-1IGN#PBF works on a principle called No-Latency Delta-Sigma (ΔΣ) Analog-to-Digital Conversion or NLDS. What happens in this conversion process is the analog signal is down-sampled and encoded using a process of oversampling and quantization. This process creates what is known as a delta-sigma modulator or ΔΣ modulator. This modulator then outputs a bit stream and this is usually in the form of a pulse-density modulation. The modulator then converts the analog signal into a digital signal, which is then converted back to analog using a digital-to-analog converter (DAC).
The NLDS ADC is a more efficient process than traditional ADCs because most of the signal is sampled, processed and rejected before it is actually converted to a digital signal. This improves the power efficiency, reduces noise and provides a higher dynamic range. NLDS ADCs are also more accurate as they do not require interpolation, which reduces the signal-to-quantization error.
The LTC2435-1IGN#PBF also includes two-bit dxad oversampling. This oversampling process increases the accuracy, dynamic range and signal-to-noise ratio. It does this by increasing the total number of samples taken for each signal, thus improving both noise immunity and linearity.
