Working Principle
The LTC2942CDCB-1#TRMPBF works in a three-stage charging process, first comprising of a Constant Current/Constant Voltage (CC/CV) Stage which is followed by an Absorption stage, and finally a float stage. At the start of the CC/CV stage, the charger charges the battery at a constant current; specified by an external resistor and the programmed maximum current. When the battery voltage reaches the Maximum Cell Voltage (programmed from an external resistor) the battery is then charged at a Constant Voltage. At the end of the CC/CV stage, the LTC2942CDCB-1#TRMPBF enters the Absorption stage where the battery is held at the Maximum Cell voltage for the programmed period of time. The final stage is the Float stage where the charger holds the Maximum Cell voltage until the battery reaches the recharge threshold (normally 2.5V/cell) or the programmed recharge period has expired.The LTC2942CDCB-1#TRMPBF also includes a coulomb counter and a real-time cell voltage monitor which can be used to monitor the state of charge of the battery and/or calculate the battery capacity. Additionally, the LTC2942CDCB-1#TRMPBF includes several safety features to protect the battery from damage caused by over-charging, over-voltage, over-discharge, and over-temperature conditions.
