The LTC3706EGN is an integrated power supply controller, monitor and supervisor specifically designed to monitor the output of a linear regulator or an isolated flyback converter for medical and industrial applications. This PMIC can provide continuous regulation, monitoring and system protection for a single non-isolated output or multiple isolated outputs from a single transformer. It is packaged in a small QFN (8-lead) package and has a wide range of DC to DC parameters, making it ideal for single- or multiple-output applications. This PMIC can be combined with a wide range of semiconductor devices, including FETs, diodes and transistors, to form a full power supply system.

The LTC3706EGN is designed to monitor one or more outputs connected to a single transformer. It can also be used with a DC/DC buck converter, or multiple converters connected in parallel to form a single power supply system. For safety and reliability, it features a low input voltage protection with auto-reset, a fault-signal shutdown output, an external ESD protection for both input and output, and over-temperature protection. Additionally, it has an extensive range of debugging pins and control pins.

The working principle of the LTC3706EGN is simple but highly efficient. It operates by using a pulse width modulated current controller to regulate the output voltage. The regulator comprises of a voltage sense circuit and a feedback controlled oscillator that determines the frequency of the pulses. The voltage sense circuit monitors the output voltage and compares it to a reference voltage. If there is a difference between the two, it generates a trigger signal to the feedback oscillator, changing the width of its output pulse.In this way, the output voltage is regulated to the desired value, no matter what load or temperature is applied.
