LTC3706IGN

LTC3706IGN is a power management integrated circuit, or PMIC, that provides control and monitoring functions of power supplies. It is designed to offer high-level integration, accuracy and power saving features to power supply designers. The LTC3706IGN has been used in various system applications such as desktops, servers, and embedded systems.

The LTC3706IGN is a complete stand-alone, low-cost, non-isolated monolithic DC/DC controller and power supply monitor. It operates over an input voltage range of 8.5 to 20V and incorporates two low-side MOSFET driver channels, start pin control, and an overvoltage comparator. A precision voltage reference ensures accuracy during startup and load regulation. The device also has an integrated watchdog timer, error amplifiers, peak current mode control loop, and a power-good output for monitoring the output voltage.

The core power management task of the LTC3706IGN is to take a moderate-voltage DC input and convert it to a precise and stable output voltage, while managing the current along the way. The controller can be programmed to adapt its functionality to various voltage outputs. The onboard sensors collect and convey output voltage, current and temperature data which can be used to adjust the output voltage or even shut the system down in the event of an abnormal condition.

The LTC3706IGN relies on the peak current mode control scheme in which a voltage across an external sense resistor is used to limit the amount of current flowing through the power switch. The voltage across the sense resistor is also used for error correction and provides feedback to the controllers\' error amplifiers. The value of the sense resistor determines the peak current of the output.

The LTC3706IGN also offers advanced protection features including overtemperature protection, brownout protection, and overvoltage protection. If the output voltage goes beyond the threshold voltage, the LTC3706IGN turns off the power switch and raises the logic high signal to notify the rest of the system. Despite its small size, the LTC3706IGN is capable of providing high current densities of up to 4 A/mm2.

The LTC3706IGN has been used in a wide range of applications where maximum accuracy, improving efficiency, and high current densities are required. It is used in low voltage computer power supplies, battery-powered AC/DC adapters, and industrial/automotive applications. Special applications such as automotive systems require an extra layer of protection and the LTC3706IGN is capable of providing it.
