Working Principle
The LTC3765HMSE#PBF is an integrated power supply controller, monitor and protector dedicated to negative voltage hot-swap applications. With its integrated reset and adjustable soft-start, the controller can provide reliable power backup and superior protection to critical loads.
The LTC3765HMSE#PBF is based on a hysteresis-based control architecture. The load current is compared to two user-selectable trip points, with Hysteresis of 100µA between them. When the load current is above the threshold, an output signal is generated and the negative voltage is switched off. When the load current falls to below the threshold, the output signal is cleared and the negative voltage is switched back on.
The controller provides adjustable output overvoltage, undervoltage and brownout protection. Output voltage throttling is used to protect against overvoltage or undervoltage conditions. When the output current is too high, the controller will reduce its output voltage until the current drops to the predetermined levels.
The LTC3765HMSE#PBF also offers configurable overcurrent protection, which can be used for both single-phase and multi-phase systems. The current trip point can be set as low as 0.2A, and the trip accuracy is 10%.
The controller also includes an integrated high-side current monitor, which provides accurate current information within ±5mA accuracy. This helps to monitor the load current and protect it against overcurrent conditions.
The LTC3765HMSE#PBF is designed to be used in conjunction with external power MOSFETs, which act as the actual switches of the negative voltage hot-swap system. The controller provides the necessary switching signals to the external power MOSFETs and controls their state according to the input voltage, load current, and various protection settings.
